Sharktank BJJ

Calm strength for the whole family.

A jiu-jitsu academy built for families. Kids, parents, and first-timers welcome.

Our story

Two coaches. One mat. Room for everyone.

We started teaching in borrowed rooms and community halls, and one thing kept happening: parents who came to watch ended up on the mat next to their kids. Sharktank is the home we always wanted for that.

Jiu-jitsu, done well, is quiet. It is patience, leverage, and knowing you can stay calm when things get close. That is what we teach, and it works the same for a six-year-old and a sixty-year-old.

“You do not have to be strong to begin. You begin, and strength follows.”

Programs

Kids. Families. Adults.

Three programs, one culture. Every class is small enough that your coach knows your name and your goals by the second week.

Kids

Games first, techniques second, ego never. Kids learn to fall safely, hold their balance, and solve problems with their bodies while the room stays calm and kind.

Belts are earned slowly on purpose. We would rather your child be confident and gentle than fast and rough.

Ages 4–12 · 45-minute classes · Weekday evenings and Saturday mornings

Families

Train together, in the same class, at the same time. Parents and kids partner up for warm-ups and drills, then split for age-appropriate sparring.

It is the easiest hour of the week to spend with your kid and the only one where they get to sweep you.

Parents + kids 6 and up · Sunday mornings

Adults

Fundamentals for complete beginners, live rounds for those who want them, and no pressure to compete. Gi and no-gi, both taught from the ground up.

Most of our adults started after thirty. You will not be the newest person in the room for long.

Ages 16+ · Gi and no-gi · Mornings, lunch, and evenings

What we teach

Principles before positions.

Techniques change. These do not. Every class, every age group, every belt is built on the same four ideas.

  • Calm under pressure

Breathe first, move second. The mat is where you practise staying composed when it counts.

  • Technique over strength

Leverage, timing, and position beat force. Smaller people win here every day.

  • Respect on and off the mat

Bow in, tap early, look after your partner. How you train is how you live.

  • Everyone belongs

No prior experience, no particular body type, no age limit. If you can show up, you can train.
